About the course

On this MSc, you will learn to consider the importance of cultural competence when making clinical decisions about the care and management of those suffering from poor mental health. Whether you are a clinician, policymaker, manager or activist, you will be able to examine psychiatry and mental illness through a public health and socio-cultural lens. This is a collaborative programme taught by the Centre for Global Public Health, and the Centre for Psychiatry. As a student of this programme you will consider issues of mental health within the context of culture.

　　This course is intended for both professionals currently active in mental health services, and more recent graduates with an interest in working on a global scale. Including- clinicians working in psychiatry, clinical psychology and other settings who have an interest in the public health and socio-cultural dimensions of mental illness, health managers (working at facility, district, provincial or national levels), policymakers, commissioners and activists who want to develop a public health understanding of mental health policy and mental healthcare systems, graduates seeking to work in healthcare management, anyone wanting to develop a research career in mental health policy, mental health care systems, the socio-cultural determinants of mental illness or cultural psychiatry.
