About the course

On this course, you’ll learn about the key issues in human resource management (HRM). You’ll gain knowledge in employment relations, workplace behaviours and the practice of good people-management. You’ll explore:

  internal and external factors that give shape to complex HR ideas and practices. This includes firm strategy, market dynamics, national and supranational governance, demographic and technological trends, and political-ideological contexts

  HR issues from the perspective of the strategy of an individual firm, and the external context of labour markets, employment relations and employment trends

  assessing and improving employee engagement, and evaluating the effectiveness of employee-engagement strategies

  financial and managerial aspects including turnover assessment, recruitment, retention, retirement, redundancy, dismissal, succession planning and talent management

  the interplay between firm-level management practices and employee experiences including motivation, engagement, identity-formation, negotiation, participation and representation.

How to apply

Entry requirements for University of Sussex

You should have a lower second-class (2.2) undergraduate honours degree or above (including an average mark of at least 57%).

  Your qualification should normally be in a management, humanities or social sciences subject. You may also be considered for the course if you have other professional qualifications or experience of equivalent standing.

  IELTS (Academic) - Standard level (6.5 overall, including at least 6.0 in each component). TOEFL (iBT) - 88 overall, including at least 20 in Listening, 19 in Reading, 21 in Speaking, 23 in Writing.
