About the course

If you want to apply your physics skills to understanding the universe, this is the course for you.

　　At Sussex, we’re working at the forefront of astrophysics. Our research includes:

　　exploring dark energy

　　observing the origins and evolution of our universe with the largest available telescopes and gravitational waves.

　　You’ll have access to the latest equipment, including a rooftop optical, radio, and muon telescope. In your final-year project and your research placement opportunities, you’ll interact with world-leading astrophysicists. Your integrated Masters year means you develop advanced astrophysics skills.

　　You’ll be part of a community – our lively Physics Society arranges regular social events. Our building is a real hub of activity. You’ll have all your practical sessions in our modern teaching laboratories. Outside the classroom, you can study or catch up with your friends in our popular student spaces. How to apply

Entry requirements for University of Sussex

You will need good grades in your high school leaving qualifications and may sometimes require additional study (depending on the qualification structure in your home country).

　　International Baccalaureate - Typical offer 36 points overall from the full IB Diploma. Subjects - Higher Levels must include Mathematics, with a grade of 6. Higher level Physics is desirable, but we will consider applicants on a case-by-case basis with only standard level

　　Typical A-level offer: AAA

　　IELTS (Academic) - 6.5 overall, including at least 6.0 in each component, TOEFL (iBT) - 88 overall, including at least 20 in Listening, 19 in Reading, 21 in Speaking, 23 in Writing.

　　Subjects

　　A-levels must include Mathematics.

　　Physics A-level is desirable, but we will consider applicants on a case-by-case basis without it.
