About the course
This one-year, full-time Masters of Science program has been specially designed to position program graduates to become the next generation of leaders in this field, with training not only in biomedical science, but also in safety, regulatory compliance, entrepreneurship, business decision-making and management. To do this, the program builds on signature strengths at the University of Rochester (UR), including: stem cell biotechnology/biomanufacturing, drug development, and business entrepreneurship/innovation. In addition to coursework at the UR?s School of Medicine and Dentistry and William E. Simon School of Business, all trainees also participate in an intensive, team-based, experiential learning experience - or Practicum. The Practicum is the cornerstone of the program, and provides real-world, hands-on technical experience in either biomanufacturing or drug development - with placement driven by the student?s career path objectives. The biomanufacturing practicum will take place in the UR?s Stem Cell cGMP Facility, which produces cell-based products for first-in-human trials of new experimental therapies, under the FDA?s current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). The drug development practicum is conducted in a UR research laboratory that is carrying out early phase drug development and screening. Finally, the program will also assist students in pursuing an optional Biomanufacturing or Drug Development Internship in the private sector (over the summer), and will help students find an exciting job after graduation, that aligns with their career goals and aspirations.
