About the course

In the Information Organization concentration, students learn how to organize information for a wide variety of information formats, resources, systems, and environments. Graduates may be responsible for library cataloging, classification, metadata development and use, indexing and abstracting, organizing digital resources and organizing special materials in libraries, museums, and archives.

　　Graduates are expected to understand the principles and application of concepts related to information representation, management, and access, including issues related to quality control, and the need to respond actively to users' needs. They are also expected to have a foundation in various systems and technologies used for organizing information.

　　The Master of Science with a major in Library Science (MS-LS) is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to function as information professionals in a variety of information organizations, including public libraries, academic libraries, or special libraries maintained by government agencies, corporations, law firms, medical centers, or museums. Students earning this degree will be prepared for a wide range of careers, such as reference librarian, technical services librarian, youth and children's librarian, museum/archive curator/special collections librarian, electronic resources librarian, cataloging/metadata librarian, instructional services librarian, law/legal librarian, institutional repository /digital collection manager, data curation specialist, etc. Students can choose from six (6) concentrations within the Library Science major. How to apply

Entry requirements for University of North Texas

Applicants holding a bachelor’s degree, its equivalent from a regionally accredited institution. If admitted, original and official documents will be required before you can register for classes. Official transcripts are required for all U.S. schools attended before processing your application. Transcripts should be sent to the Toulouse Graduate School which will be reviewed and then sent to the academic department for an admission decision. UNT degree program applicants must demonstrate English Language Proficiency. Minimum TOEFL score requirement is 79 iBT, 213 computer, 550pBT, Minimum IELTS score is 6.0. 3.0 GPA in the undergraduate degree for admission to the Master’s program.
