About the course
Epidemiology is the science that studies the patterns, causes, and effects of health and disease conditions in defined populations. It is the cornerstone of public health, and informs policy decisions and evidence-based practice by identifying risk factors for disease and targets for preventive healthcare. As such, it is uniquely positioned to provide the methodologies and skills needed to carry out research and public health programs to identify correlates of disease that may be targets of primary prevention, to evaluate the consequences of changes in health care delivery on populations, and to accommodate the growing need to integrate and analyze large-scale information. Our program is focused on epidemiologic and biostatistical methods and is designed to provide students with the tools and skills needed to address future public health and information challenges. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), epidemiologists are likely to have good job prospects overall. Continued improvements in medical recordkeeping will enhance epidemiologists? ability to track health outcomes, demographic data, and other useful data. Furthermore, improvements in statistical and mapping software will improve analysis, make epidemiological data more useful, and increase demand for epidemiologists.
The Master of Science in Epidemiology is a 34-credit, three-semester course of study designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to examine factors associated with the development and prevention of disease in populations. We meet this goal by providing students with a strong foundation in the fundamental elements of epidemiologic research and biostatistics. Upon completion of the program, students will be: Able to understand and apply the epidemiologic methodologies and study designs used to examine factors associated with the development and prevention of disease. Able to apply the statistical tools necessary for analysis of such data applicable to public health outcomes. Prepared to take on positions in a wide variety of private and public institutions engaged in clinical and public health research and evaluation. Scholarships - View all scholarships Internships
