About the course

Illinois State University is one of only a handful of institutions that offer a terminal M.S. degree in Chemistry. Our graduate program is aimed exclusively at the master's level, and so all of the students in the graduate program enter seeking the master's degree. Illinois State's Department of Chemistry is consistently one of the largest producers of master's degrees for institutions not offering a Ph.D. degree. 80 percent of students in the Department of Chemistry are involved in research with faculty, internships, or student-teaching. Entry requirements for Illinois State University

The Master of Chemistry Education (M.C.E.) is a professional degree designed to improve the content and pedagogical knowledge of teachers of chemistry who do not possess a bachelor's degree in Chemistry. In order to be admitted to Illinois State, a student must have earned a four-year bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a college or university that is accredited by the appropriate regional accrediting association. In addition to the overall Graduate School requirements above, a student applying to a master's program must also have a minimum 2.8 GPA (on a scale in which an A is a 4.0) for the last 60 hours of undergraduate work (approximately the junior and senior years).

　　International students applying to the master's in Chemistry must have a TOEFL score of at least 100 iBT, 250 computer-based, or 600 paper-based, the minimum acceptable IELTS score is 7.0 band.
