About the course
The Master of Library & Information Studies (MLIS) program is accredited by the American Library Association, and allows students to pursue a course-based or thesis-based degree on a full-time or part-time basis. Full-time MLIS students are advised to take three courses totalling 9 each Fall and Winter term for two years with the option to take a fourth course in a single term once during their program of study subject to advisor approval (for a total of 39). All MLIS applicants are admitted to the course-based route. You have the option to change your selection once you are in the program. Students interested in completing the thesis-based MLIS may change their program route to the thesis route after their first year of study in the course-based MLIS program. Entry requirements for University of Alberta
Completion of any four-year Bachelor's degree (excluding Bachelor degree in Library Sciences), from an accredited academic institution recognized by the University of Alberta. If you have a 3 year degree then you must have additional coursework which is equivalent to one year of courses. A GPA of 3.0 on most 4-point grading systems or B on most letter grading systems, based on your last *60-credits.TOEFL: minimum score of 237 (computer-based), or a total score of 93 with a score of at least 24 on speaking and writing and 20 on reading and listening (internet-based).IELTS (Academic): minimum overall band score of 7.5, with at least 7.0 on each band.
