About the course
Fletcher's Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Law is designed for lawyers interested in gaining broad expertise in international law.Our LL.M. reflects The Fletcher School's goal of increasing international understanding, and preparing students from around the globe for leadership positions. We differ from traditional law schools because the program is focused exclusively on issues of public and private international law. Our courses cover the spectrum of international law, and are taught by experts with both academic expertise and extensive real world experience. The interdisciplinary nature of our program allows you, as a student, to see issues of international law in their social, economic, and political contexts. As an LL.M. student at Fletcher, you build a strong foundation in international law, and will have the opportunity to complement that foundation with courses from the diverse group of political science, history, business and economics courses that make up the Fletcher curriculum. As an LL.M. student you will be part of a diverse and vibrant group, with classmates hailing from around the world. You will get to know your classmates, as well as leaders in the field of international law, through our program-specific events throughout the year. Our High Table speaker series gives students the chance to meet and talk with distinguished international lawyers over lecture-luncheons. At the end of the year, our capstone retreat is a chance to gather off campus with fellow LL.M. students and faculty to discuss students' research and examine pressing issues in international law. Our LL.M. is highly personalized. Each LL.M. student receives active mentorship from our faculty. The program's size is intentionally limited so that staff and faculty get to know every student in the LL.M. Throughout the year, program staff and faculty will work with you to determine the best course schedule for your career goals, and are here to support you as you explore all that Fletcher has to offer. Our personalized approach and cohesive community make our LL.M. unique in comparison with our peers' larger programs, and will empower you to make the most of your time at The Fletcher School.
