About the course

Set yourself apart from the competition, build industry connections, gain in-depth knowledge in your desired legal area of interest, and increase your standing in the eyes of potential employers with our Master of Laws program. As a student, you can choose from eight highly relevant emphasis areas, including Business and Entrepreneurial Law, Child and Family Law, Intellectual Property Law, Criminal Law, International Law, Litigation, Tax Law or U.S. Law, or chart your own course of study with help from your faculty advisor. There is no thesis requirement for this program, however, you may choose to undertake a thesis on a subject matter approved by your academic advisor.   Letter of recommendation

  International students whose first language is not English or whose law instruction was not in English also must provide an official TOEFL or IELTS score. Students should have a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper exam) or 80 (internet exam), or a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 with an individual score below 5.5. Students whose TOEFL score is below 600 (paper exam) or 90 (internet exam) or below 6.5 on the IELTS will likely be required to attend UMKC?s Summer Legal English Workshop.

  A cumulative GPA of at least 2.7 is required for the LL.M. (Taxation), and 2.0 for the Master of Laws.
