Graduate study in the apparel studies track advances both theoretical and practical knowledge of textile and apparel products related to human behavior. Here you will be provided with the opportunity to work with established scholars, participate in innovative research, and interact with a cohort of graduate students. As a graduate student in Apparel Studies, you can select from a wide range of supporting classes available from a multitude of programs at the University of Minnesota. Entry requirements for University of Minnesota - Twin Cities
The student must have skills and experience to approach research-based graduate work in the fields of apparel studies, which includes the concentration areas of Dress-History-Culture, Product Development, and/or Retail and Consumer Studies. Students with an undergraduate degree in an area of Clothing & Textiles -- or equivalent professional training and experience -- are encouraged to apply. Students with other education and work experience may also be considered, with the understanding that alternate backgrounds/experience may require additional coursework or independent study to fill any knowledge/skills gaps.
Personal Statement of Academic Goals (1-2 pages) You should also identify a minimum of two faculty members whose research interests align with your own.
Diversity Statement (1 page or longer if applying for the DOVE)
Unofficial transcripts from ALL colleges and universities which you have attended, including any transfer coursework.
Three (3) Letters of Recommendation Requests for letters should be made via the online application system at least one month before the deadline to ensure that they are received in time. You can make the requests as soon as you begin your application and prior to submitting it. Your recommenders will submit their letters to the online system. You do not need to wait for the letters to appear in your application in order to submit it. Your recommenders should complete the one page recommendation form and submit their 1-2 page recommendation letter as instructed.
GRE -- Graduate Record Examination scores are waived for all Fall 2021 applicants.
