About the course
The UMass Amherst Historic Preservation Program, part of the Department of Architecture, offers a unique opportunity for advanced study in historic preservation at this major public university, with the benefits of the first public Master of Architecture program in New England, a leading Public History program, and significant faculty in areas of material science, landscape architecture, and building construction technology. The program draws from the rich resources of a major public research university and a wealth of regional places and institutions in order to offer a professional degree in historic preservation which will prepare students for diverse careers in the stewardship of place. Graduates can pursue different tracks that will teach them techniques for the care and rehabilitation of old places, ways to advance advocacy for saving historic buildings and landscapes, and philosophical and legal frameworks for developing new policies for making preservation a partner in the development of sustainable, beautiful, and just communities. How to apply
Entry requirements for University of Massachusetts - Amherst
We encourage applicants from all disciplines and backgrounds. Graduates from a BA or BS in Architectural Studies or an equivalent degree may be given advanced standing in the Master of Architecture.
Transcripts
3 Letters of Recommendation
Personal Statement, no more than 3 pages.
Portfolio and/or documentation of previous creative work and/or research. A portfolio of creative work should include no more than twenty pages of art, architecture, and/or design work.
Prospective students to the Master of Architecture program are required to have completed one semester each of calculus and physics prior to program admission. A semester of architectural history is also recommended.
The minimum scores are 550 for the paper-based TOEFL test and 80 for the computer-based TOEFL test, 6.5 for the IELTS.
