About the course
The Department of Mathematics has one of the highest ranked mathematics graduate programs in the southeast. It is also one of the largest departments at UGA. The Department of Mathematics offers four graduate degrees: Master of Arts (MA), Master of Arts Non-Thesis (MA), Master of Applied Mathematical Science (MAMS), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). The Department of Mathematics is in UGA’s Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. It is located in Boyd Graduate Studies Research Center which is situated adjacent to the Science Library on UGA’s south campus. The department offers instruction and research training in the areas of algebra, analysis, applied mathematics, ordinary, partial, and stochastic differential equations, algebraic, differential, and integral geometry, mathematical physics, number theory, numerical analysis, probability and stochastic processes, and topology. Financial aid in the form of assistantships is available to students admitted into the graduate program. This support will be continued for up to six years (five years for students admitted with a Masters degree), as long as the student makes timely progress and maintains a satisfactory academic record. How to apply
Entry requirements for University of Georgia
To be admitted to a graduate program, an applicant must have completed a bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university. Although an undergraduate major in mathematics is not required, an applicant should have mastered material roughly equivalent to that required of an undergraduate mathematics major at The University of Georgia. In particular, if you wish to enter the M.A. or Ph.D. program, you should have had at least a semester of advanced calculus, further courses at the junior/senior level in two or more of the following mathematical fields are also desirable: set theory, algebra, topology, numerical analysis, applied mathematics, probability, statistics, and computer science. Students with strong records in less comprehensive programs will be considered for admission but should expect to spend their first few semesters in graduate school completing their undergraduate preparation in mathematics.
Unofficial transcripts from each institution attended. (If UGA, you do not need to submit.) Official transcripts are only required if offered admission.
Three (3) letters of reference submitted online when you submit the application.
