About the course

The Committee on Liberal Studies ? those studies worthy of free persons ? rests on the notion that our students are best served by engaging broadly and deeply with core issues of modern society and thought in the transdisciplinary context of The New School for Social Research. The MA in Liberal Studies also offers practical writing tools and guided in-depth study in transdisciplinary courses taught by renowned faculty, who emphasize rigorous critical inquiry and thoughtful expression.

How to apply

Entry requirements for The New School

Unofficial Transcripts: Applicants must upload an unofficial transcript, mark sheet, or academic record for each institution attended in the Educational Background section of the online application. Official Transcripts: Applicants offered admission will be required to submit official transcripts, and official certified translations and evaluations of the transcripts or mark sheets and degree certifications if degrees were earned outside of the United States. Admitted applicants must submit all official transcripts from their entire academic careers. Two letters of recommendation, Personal Essays, All certificate, MA, and PhD applicants must submit an academic writing sample. Resume, All applicants whose first language is not English must submit a valid TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE score. The minimum score required for TOEFL (IB) is 100, for IELTS is 7.0, Graduate degree applicants must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited American college or university or the equivalent degree from a foreign college or university.
