The Master of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies can serve as the preparatory degree for the Ph.D., or as a terminal degree for students seeking greater exposure to theatre and performance studies beyond the undergraduate degree. Entry requirements for University of Wisconsin - Madison
Official transcripts from each previous undergraduate or postgraduate institution. International academic records must be in the original language accompanied by an official English translation. Documents must be issued by the school and bear that institutions official seal/stamp and an official signature. A one- or two-page letter of intent explaining the candidate’s reasons for pursuing graduate study. Letters of intent should state in specific detail the applicant’s area of interest, possible research questions and methodological focus, and future goals. This should be uploaded to the online Graduate School application. A writing sample of 15-20 pages. This writing sample should demonstrate critical thinking and writing to the applicant’s best advantage. Writing samples reflecting the applicant’s skills in theatre and drama research are preferred. A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or a comparable degree from an international institution is required. International applicants must have a degree comparable to a regionally accredited U.S. bachelor’s degree.
A minimum undergraduate grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00 on the equivalent of the last 60 semester hours (approximately two years of work) or a master’s degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 is required. Applicants from an international institution must demonstrate strong academic achievement comparable to a 3.00 for an undergraduate or master’s degree.
The required proficiency scores are: Minimum TOEFL requirement: 92 internet (iBT), 580 paper-based test (PBT), Minimum IELTS requirement: 7.0
