About the course
The Psychology for Teachers concentration is intended for practicing teachers who wish to know more about the psychology of their students and their families or of their teaching, or who wish to take advanced degrees for career advancement. Courses will give them a more thorough grounding in research and application of Educational Psychology than is represented in the undergraduate program, especially for those who chose alternative certification. Most courses could be completed either in the summer or late afternoons/early evenings to accommodate a teacher’s schedule. This concentration is for certified teachers or those wanting to enhance their prospects of getting hired as K-12 teachers. This would also be useful for charter school teachers or alternative certification teachers who want to get a deeper understanding of learning and motivation for teaching. How to apply
Entry requirements for University of Texas - Austin
A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the U.S. or proof of equivalent training at a foreign institution.
A satisfactory grade-point average (GPA), particularly during the last two years of college and in any graduate study previously undertaken. Although the minimum required GPA for the Graduate and International Admissions Center is 3.0, the Department will consider applications with lower GPAs.
GRE (Graduate Records Examination) General Aptitude Test-The General Test is composed of verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing sections. While it is important to note that there is no minimum GRE score requirement in our Department, we believe that a score of 160 or higher on the verbal section and 150 or higher on the quantitative section will make an application more competitive. (A score of 4 or higher is recommended for the writing section.)
Three letters of recommendation, especially from professors who are familiar with the applicant's academic performance and potential.
TOEFL: 79 on the Internet-based test (iBT)
