About the course

Further your explorations in mathematics and teaching concepts in our research-based, doctoral-prep MA in Mathematics Education program. We designed our master of arts degree program for students with a strong mathematics background or a background in mathematics education who are interested in doing research for a thesis.

　　Our program provides you an opportunity to strengthen your mathematics background, develop your research skills, and deepen your educational approach. Through coursework and individual faculty guidance, you will develop the skills needed to conduct original research, making this degree a good precursor to a doctoral degree.

　　You will take classes in three distinct areas:

　　Educational Psychology: Learn the foundations of human development, motivation, and cognition for education.

　　Curriculum and Instruction: Focus on teaching school mathematics and developing mathematics curricula.

How to apply

Entry requirements for University of Georgia

3 letters of recommendation

　　Applicants should submit unofficial transcripts from all institutions attended as part of the online application.

　　A baccalaureate degree, or a foreign equivalent, from a regionally accredited institution are eligible to apply for admission to the Graduate School

　　Minimum TOEFL score requirement: overall score of 80 with at least 20 on speaking and writing

　　Minimum IELTS score requirement: overall band-width of 6.5, with no single band (score) below 6.0.

　　Applicants must submit their official GRE or MAT scores during application. In recent years, students admitted to our master's degree programs have earned average GRE (quantitative) scores in the 65th to 70th percentile and average GRE (verbal) scores in the 50th to 55th percentile. We also accept the Miller Analogies Test (MAT).
