About the course

The Economics Department offers a Dual Master of Science and Master of Arts Program in Mathematics and Economics for students who want to pursue graduate studies in both disciplines. A minimum of 51 credits of graduate work is required, including at least 21 credits of course work in mathematics and at least 21 credits of course work in economics. A minimum GPA of 3.00 is required for the graduate course work that is part of the degree program.

  Learning Outcomes

  Upon completion of the M.A. in Economics program, students should be able to:

  Analyze behavior of economic agents under various market structures.

  Apply the tools of welfare economics to public-policy problems.

  Construct and apply microeconomic models.

  Construct and apply macroeconomic models.

  Use statistical methods to explain and interpret economic data.

Entry requirements for University of Nevada

TOEFL (Internet-based) - Minimum score: 80, Paper‐based: Total minimum score 550, (Computer-based) Minimum score - 213. IETLS - Minimum score: 6.5.

  Bachelor’s Degree – You must hold a four-year baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution, or an approved international equivalent.

  Grade Point Average – You must have a minimum overall grade point average of 2.75 (4.00=A) for your bachelor’s degree, or a minimum 3.00 (4.00=A) for the last two years (60 semester hours).

  All applicants are required to submit a transcript from each postsecondary institution attended, showing all degrees and coursework, the dates awarded, and grades received.
