About the course

The Juris Doctor (J.D.) is a professional degree and the first degree required to practice law in the United States. At Temple, students can earn a J.D. in three years in the full-time division or in four years in the evening and part-time divisions. Temple’s J.D. program delivers the knowledge, skills, experience, and professionalism necessary to excel at the practice of law. Litigation Basics and Introduction to Transactional Skills courses get students on their feet within a few weeks of the start of law school, while our highly regarded Legal Research and Writing program helps them develop the strong practice skills for which Temple graduates are well-known. Diverse doctrinal, experiential, and integrated courses, all led by accomplished faculty, ensure that every Temple student has access to a world-class legal education, no matter what his or her area of interest.

　　Temple has long recognized the value of a global legal education. We have to a dozen faculty members focused on teaching international law subjects and our curriculum is both diverse and deep, with multiple sections of the introductory course in international law a well as upper-level electives on international human rights, law and development, international criminal law treaties, and international trade, among others. At Temple, you can do more than just read about legal practice around the world, you can live it. We have one of the nation’s oldest summer study abroad programs in Rome, Italy, and the only semester-long U.S. study abroad program in Tokyo, Japan. Temple also offers the oldest U.S. graduate law program in Beijing, China, and students can study abroad at our partner law schools around the world. How to apply

Entry requirements for Temple University

All matriculants in the J.D. program must have earned a baccalaureate degree from an institution which is approved by one of the regional accrediting associations of the United States.

　　All applicants must provide transcripts from each graduate or professional school attended. Official transcripts of all graduate and professional school courses can be sent either to the Credential Assembly Service or directly to the Temple University Beasley School of Law Office of Admissions.

　　A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is ordinarily required for admissions consideration.
