About the course

The Juris Doctor degree at Miami Law is a full-time program combining a rigorous academic curriculum with professional training in critical lawyering skills. The 88-credit degree program is a full-time program requiring three academic years of study.

　　The unique introductory program helps first-year students master the technical aspects of the law as a basis for understanding its theory and substance. The program provides students with an essential foundation for exploring the political, commercial, and social dimensions of legal institutions.

　　The U.S. Constitution was written over 200 years ago, yet it continues to have a considerable impact on life in America today. Constitutional law addresses foundational questions at the core of our democracy and has tremendous practical significance for the most important and intimate aspects of people?s lives. What are the powers and limitations of the executive, judiciary, and legislative branches of the federal government. What individual rights are guaranteed by the First and Fourteenth Amendments. When is someone accused of a crime entitled to a jury trial?or even a lawyer.

　　Miami Law requires you to take Constitutional Law during your 1L year and offers other fundamental courses such as Federal Courts and Legislation. Then, delve into our specialized courses such as Impeachment Politics in Constitutional Perspective and explore new constitutional territory such as cyber abuse and harassment in our Cyber Civil Rights Practicum. How to apply

Entry requirements for University of Miami

To be considered for admission to the University of Miami School of Law, an applicant must have earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university prior to enrolling in law school. Miami Law admits first-year JD students to commence studies only in the fall semester and reviews applications on a rolling basis throughout the year. Applications are reviewed as soon as all required documents are received.

　　Applicants whose native language is not English, and whose undergraduate education is from outside the U.S., are required to submit results of an English language proficiency test. Miami Law will accept scores from either the Test of English as a Foreign Language TOEFL or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The minimum required TOEFL score for admission is 580 paper-based, 237 computer-based and 92 internet-based. The minimum required IELTS score for admission is 7.0
