About the course

This Doctor of Philosophy program sees candidates working with a Principal Supervisor, appointed by the Research Higher Degrees Sub Committee, with the approval of the School. A minimum of three years and a maximum of four years (full-time equivalent), this degree is awarded on the basis of an externally examined thesis of approximately 100,000 words. How to apply

Entry requirements for Federation University Australia

Successful completion of an Honours Degree at class 2A level, or its overseas equivalent. Applicants should first familiarise themselves with staff supervision, then contact the staff in the relevant area to informally discuss research ideas. Staff will then advise on proceedings regarding formal applications for the program and scholarships.

　　An applicant must: have graduated with or qualified for a masters degree that included a dissertation demonstrating the ability to undertake research at PhD level, or have graduated with or qualified for a four year honours bachelors degree, or degree with honours at first class or second class, upper division, honours level, that included a dissertation demonstrating the ability to undertake research at PhD level, or have been enrolled for a masters degree by research and have completed research which is assessed as demonstrating the capacity to undertake research at PhD level, or hold qualifications and/or have demonstrated skills, experience, research, or publications which are assessed as being at least equivalent to, or a satisfactory substitute for, any of the qualifications prescribed above.

　　> IELTS (International Language Testing System) minimum score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0

　　> TOEFL (American Test of English as a Foreign Language) minimum score of 580 plus a TWE (Test of Written English) score of 5.0

　　> TOEFL computer-based minimum score of 237 plus a minimum score of 22 in writing

　　> TOEFL internet-based minimum score of 92-93 plus a minimum score of 22 in writing
