About the course
The Statistics program offers both the M.A. and Ph.D. degree. The coursework for both degree programs integrates statistical theory, applications and computing. Students planning graduate studies at the University of New Mexico will find a congenial department in which to work and a faculty of international stature. The research interests of the Statistics group include core areas of Applied and Theoretical Statistics, as well as in Probability. Ph.D. students dissertations may be in any of these broad areas. How to apply
Entry requirements for University of New Mexico
The prerequisite for entrance into the PhD program is knowledge of linear algebra and advanced calculus. Formal admittance to the program is achieved by passing the PhD qualifying examination, which is described in the Master’s program Examination Requirements. Students who transfer to UNM with a Master’s degree from another institution are required to take the PhD qualifying examination as soon as practical, and in no case later than one year after admission. If such a student has passed a qualifying exam in Statistics at another institution, the student may petition the Graduate Committee for an exemption from the qualifying exam requirement.
Earned degree that is the equivalent to a U.S. Bachelor degree. Please note that some bachelor degrees are based on a three-program and are not considered equivalent to the U.S. bachelor degree. Minimum of a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) on a U.S. 4.0 scale or comparable grade point average in upper-division (junior and senior level) university course work and in any graduate work already completed.
