The Department of Special Education (EDSP) offers a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree which is designed to prepare individuals to conduct and disseminate research and prepare future teachers in special education. Students accepted into the PhD program are prepared to assume faculty positions at research universities or leadership positions in state and local education agencies, policy organizations, or the federal government. How to apply

Entry requirements for University of Maryland - College Park

Admission to the Ph.D. program requires:

  The AGS program requires a 3.0 undergraduate GPA, a master’s GPA of 3.5, and submission of scores on the MAT, GRE, or Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators test. Admission to the Ph.D. program requires:

  An undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better,

  A score on the Graduate Record Exam placing the student at or above the 50th percentile on verbal, quantitative, and analytic subtests,

  Two years of research or work experience with exceptional populations,

  Three letters of recommendation from individuals who have direct knowledge of the applicant’s academic capabilities, work experience, and professional characteristics,

  A statement of academic and research goals including intended area of study, research interests, and plans for future employment,

  Evidence of writing skills shown in the statement of academic and research goals,

  EDMS Research Methods I or equivalent. IBT Toefl - 100 (Speaking - 22, Listening - 24, Reading - 26, Writing - 24 ), Ielts overall 7 (Listening -7, Reading – 7, Writing – 7, Speaking - 6.5)
