About the course
The Department of Nutrition, Food and Exercise Sciences is in a unique position nationwide to provide graduate coursework and research opportunities in human nutrition and food science, as well as in exercise physiology and sports sciences. The combination of these respective areas of concentration within a single department facilitates integrative studies between diet and physical activity in the maintenance of health and the prevention or treatment of chronic diseases, as well as studies on the quality and safety of food. Today’s interest in healthy lifestyles is translating into a remarkable range of career opportunities related to diet, fitness, and health. Florida State University’s doctoral program in Human Sciences, Nutrition and Food Science major, prepares students to pursue careers in a wide variety of health-related careers as well as academia. It is a research intensive and competency-based program. How to apply
Entry requirements for Florida State University
A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution, or a comparable degree from an international institution, with a minimum 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) grade point average (GPA) in all coursework attempted while enrolled as an upper-division undergraduate student working towards a bachelor's degree
An upper-division undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The same scale applies for graduate-level work. A professional degree is not counted for university GPA requirements.
A master?s degree or post-baccalaureate professional degree from an accredited university.
A competitive GRE General Test score, recommended score of above the 50th percentile (approximately 150) in both verbal and quantitative sections with a 4.0 or higher on the writing section. Please note that it can take up to ten (10) days after sitting for the GRE for an official score report to be sent to the university
International students must have an official TOEFL iBT score of at least 550 (paper-based) or 80 (internet-based) to meet university requirements. The department recommends 600 (paper-based) or 100 (internet-based) for a competitive application to the doctoral program. Our department does not accept other English proficiency examinations.
