About the course

The doctoral program offers concentrations in five areas of study: applied mathematics, pure mathematics, statistics, mathematical finance, and mathematics education. The program consists of 60 hours of graduate coursework and 12 hours of doctoral dissertation. The program requirements listed below are in addition to the university and Graduate School requirements. Specific questions concerning interpretation of these policies should be directed to the graduate advisor. A student in the doctoral program must fill out a degree plan after the end of the second long semester and before the start of the third long semester in the program. How to apply

Entry requirements for Texas Tech University

In order to apply, students should apply directly to the Graduate School for admission to Texas Tech University as a graduate student. Briefly, for all programs in Mathematics and Statistics, this includes submission of a completed application form, non-refundable application fee, and official transcripts for all previous college-level study. In addition, the M.S. and Ph.D. programs require three letters of reference and GRE scores. International students must also submit official TOEFL scores and a bank statement that indicates sufficient funds to cover the student's education and living expenses. Submit these application materials directly to the Graduate School. In addition, the department recommends that unofficial copies of all application materials be sent directly to the Graduate Advisor.

　　For international applicants, proof of English proficiency which meets the minimum required score for Texas Tech University

　　79 (internet-based version). The TOEFL score must be received directly from the Educational Testing Service , International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) – The minimum IELTS required score is an overall band score of 6.5 on the Academic version. TOEFL score of at least 213 (computer) or 550 (written) for students for whom English is a foreign language.
