Applicants to the Genetics Program undergo a holistic evaluation by our Admissions committee. In addition to overall academic achievement (GPA), the committee considers factors including, but not limited to, the rigor and relevance of completed coursework (courses in Genetics, Genomics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or similar areas are highly recommended), experience in laboratory research, scholarly outputs (presentations, publications), awards, leadership experience, faculty references, and scientific maturity. Applicants with unique experiences or circumstances are encouraged to describe those in their applications, as we are particularly interested in recruiting a diverse array of outstanding students.
Three letters of recommendation should be requested from individuals who are familiar with your academic achievements and potential. Applicants are required to submit a Statement of Purpose and Resume highlighting their research accomplishments and interests.
Official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores for the Verbal, Quantitative and Analytical sections are required for all applicants. Subject tests are not required for admission into the graduate program in genetics. Scores should be sent directly from the Educational Testing Service to Texas A&M University (Code 6003) and must be from within the last five years.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores are required from applicants whose native language is not English, unless those applicants completed all four years of a baccalaureate degree in the United States or achieved a 146 Verbal GRE or 22 Verbal GMAT.
Official transcripts are required from each senior-level, post-secondary institution attended. An official statement of the award of the degree or diploma is required for each degree completed.
TOEFL - 550 for paper-based testing (p-BT) or 80 internet-based testing (i-BT). A minimum IELTS score of 6.0 overall band.
