Entry requirements for University of Massachusetts - Amherst
Admission to the Ph.D. program requires a faculty member agreeing to direct the dissertation of the applicant regardless of their background. Previous laboratory research experience is required for admission to the Ph.D program, typically fulfilled by completion of a M.S. degree. Prerequisites are GPA of 3.0 or above, separate courses in: general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, general microbiology with lab and statistics.
The minimum scores are 550 for the paper-based TOEFL test and 80 for the computer-based TOEFL test, 6.5 for the IELTS.
Students are required to submit an explanation that address any grades falling below a letter grade B or a GPA of 3.0 by US standards.
