About the course
Our department provides an outstanding environment for advanced studies in chemistry. We are among the best equipped and best funded in the nation and have faculty renowned for excellence in teaching and research.Our research support infrastructure is second to none, professional staff assist students to gain invaluable hands-on experience with state-of-the-art equipment.Support facilities include laboratories for nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry, X-ray crystallography, general analytical services, and shops for information technology, electronics, machining and glassblowing. The PhD program in chemistry is a thesis-based program where students undertake research with faculty supervision. Typically, the research falls within the areas of analytical, inorganic, organic, or physical chemistry. Students are also required to four one-term graduate courses in addition to completing their research, and they must present a seminar to the Department of Chemistry on a subject other than their research topic. Entry requirements for University of Alberta
Applicants should hold a four-year bachelor degree in chemistry, or its equivalent, from an academic institution recognized by the University of Alberta, or expect to complete the requirements for such a degree before beginning graduate work. A minimum admission grade point average of 3 on most 4-point grading systems or B on most letter grading systems, based on your most recent two years of full time study (or equivalent) is required.TOEFL iBT (90 total score, no less than 21 per section).IELTS (6.5 overall band score, no less than 5.5 per section).
