Not only is it a quick entry into the working world, it?s also a door into the resurgence of barber shop culture and growing emphasis on gender-neutral cuts and styles.
Barbers work with hair. That means shampooing, cutting, trimming and styling. And, a barber's work isn't limited to men's hair. They can work with the shortest cuts with clippers to long, layered looks.
As well, you learn how to: analyze hair and scalp and suggest treatments, give a scalp massage, suggest hair styles, styling aids and products, create a hair tattoo with clippers
Barbers work on more than the hair on people?s heads. It also includes shaving, trimming and shaping facial hair. The art of shaving with a straight razor is one of the skills.
Lakeland?s certificate is a gateway to the Alberta barber apprenticeship program. You?ll complete all of the technical training. You?ll get a head start on your on-the-job training hours though the college?s public salon.
You?ll need to add just over 1,300 hours of the on-the-job training before you can write the journeyperson exam. Scholarships - View all scholarships Internships
