About the course
Pathway students enrol on the undergraduate BSc/BSc (Hons) Food Science at Glasgow Caledonian University. In the first two years, you will study HND Applied Biological Sciences at Glasgow Kelvin College while preparing for Year 3 and Year 4 (for Honours) of the degree at GCU. BSc (Hons) Food Science graduates enjoy excellent food-related career prospects in food manufacturing and production, food safety, research, development, marketing and as a food nutritionist or advisor. The course is designed to prepare you for a career in the food and food-related industries. The course, which is unique in Scotland, incorporates a combination of lectures, seminars and practical skills to provide this underpinning knowledge. According to the Food and Drink Federation, 'The [UK food] sector directly employs almost 440,000 people and as many as 1.2 million in ancillary services, it accounts for 15% of the UK's total manufacturing sector by value, and it is an invaluable partner to British agriculture, buying two-thirds of what farmers produce.' this program is also available for one year in pathway.
