About the course

Our Science Foundation Year will provide you with a route to a science degree if you don't have the traditional entry qualifications. This course may suit you if you're studying for A levels in subjects other than those normally required for these degrees. It may also interest you if you're a mature applicant, with skills and experience from employment and can show recent study. This chemical engineering degree focuses on sustainability. On completion, you’ll have the skills to help the world transition to a more sustainable future. Demand is high for chemical engineering graduates. You’ll have excellent job prospects in sectors such as food, energy, pharmaceuticals and biochemicals. Chemical engineering is a multi-disciplinary branch of engineering, focused on using chemicals and materials to design sustainable processes and giving them practical applications in the real world. Entry requirements for University of Southampton

International Baccalaureate A typical offer for the IB is 32 points overall, including 5 points in Standard or Higher Level Mathematics or Maths Studies*. Please note that we cannot accept subjects that make you eligible for entry to your chosen course. *We will accept either Mathematics: Applications and interpretation and Mathematics: Analysis and approaches from the new IB Maths courses

  A-Level requirements

  Our offer for students who have studied A-levels is typically ABB.

  BTEC Extended Diploma

  Applicants must study one of these BTEC Extended Diplomas: Aeronautical Engineering / Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Electrical/ Electronic Engineering / Manufacturing Engineering. No other BTEC subjects will be accepted.

  A typical BTEC offer is DDD overall, plus Distinctions in Mathematics for Technicians and Further Mathematics for Technicians units or Calculus to Solve Engineering Problems and Further Engineering Mathematics units.

  GCSE

  Applicants must hold Grade B/6 in GCSE Mathematics and Grade C/4 in GCSE English language. Applicants below this GCSE standard will not be considered.

  This GCSE requirement is in addition to studying a Level 3 qualification, such as A levels, Access course, BTEC National Extended Diploma etc.

  IELTS 6.5 with at least 5.5 in each band, or an equivalent standard in other qualifications approved by the University
