About the course

University Studies is the exploratory major at Virginia Tech. Our office is exclusively for undecided students who want to explore a variety of majors and degree programs, including competitive programs (restricted majors).

　　As a University Studies student, you will-

　　Be assigned a professional academic advisor who works exclusively with undecided students towards any major

　　Be able to pursue a major from any college at Tech

　　Explore several major options before committing to one particular degree program

　　Examine the requirements for restricted majors towards potential admission, if applicable

How to apply

Entry requirements for Virginia Tech

Before you can be considered for freshman admission, you must complete:

　　3 units of math (includes algebra I, geometry, and algebra II)

　　2 units of laboratory science (chosen from biology, chemistry or physics)

　　additional academic units (foreign language is highly recommended)

　　Students taking the IELTS must obtain a score of at least 6.5, with no subscore below 6.5 to be considered for admission to Virginia Tech.

　　Students taking the PTE must obtain a score of at least 53.

　　Depending on the type of TOEFL used, Virginia Tech expects students to have scores of:

　　Internet-based test: at least 80, with no section sub-score less than 16

　　Computer-based test: at least 233

　　Paper-based test: at least 550

　　Students taking the Duolingo exam must obtain a score of at least 105 or higher.

　　Receipt of all documents required before credit can be awarded.

　　Letters of Recommendation are not a part of the Virginia Tech application.

　　Completed applications will receive priority in the review process. It is critical to meet the deadlines for your application. The university reserves the right to withdraw, without notice, any application that is not complete by the deadline.
