About the course

The Bachelor of Science degree program trains students in data analysis, statistical theory, computing, and communication—the tools and skills needed to extract knowledge from data. Students who graduate with a major in statistics are well prepared for a wide variety of careers in which quantitative skills and analytical reasoning are valued or for further study at the graduate level in the field of Statistics or a related discipline. The curriculum for the B.S. in Statistics follows guidelines established by the American Statistical Association. A Statistics major will select a degree option of either Data Analysis or Mathematical Statistics. The Data Analysis option is designed to prepare an individual for a statistical career with only an undergraduate degree. The Mathematical Statistics option is designed to prepare an individual for graduate school and for further training in Statistics. Our undergraduate program continues to thrive with UGA students recognizing the importance of a background in statistics – this is seen in the increasing number of both majors (approximately 100 students) and minors.

　　The Statistics major at UGA prepares students for a statistical career by developing analytical, research, and presentation skills, mastering new and classic statistical ideas, and developing innovative statistical analysis and sampling techniques through problem solving and new technologies. Students tailor their coursework toward one of two areas of specialization: 1) Data Analysis - preparation for a statistical career, or 2) Mathematical Statistics – preparation for graduate school or further training. How to apply

Entry requirements for University of Georgia

To apply to the University of Georgia, you will need to provide: Transcript from your graduating high school, SAT/ACT scores, Secondary School Report/Counselor Recommendation, Teacher/Other Letter of Recommendation. For first-year admission, UGA requires that an applicant submit an official score report for either the ACT or SAT. Scores must be submitted electronically by the respective testing agency. UGA will not accept scores that appear on your high school transcript, nor will we consider paper reports. All first-year applicants should submit a School/Counselor Evaluation Letter, as well an optional academic Letter of Recommendation from a teacher or guidance counselor. The only minimum requirements to UGA are set forth by the Board of Regents (BOR) for the state of Georgia, and they are as follows: SAT minimum requirements for research universities-SAT CR: 430, SAT M: 400 or ACT E: 17, ACT M: 17.
