About the course

Be part of solving one of humanity’s most critical and demanding challenges — the global demand for food that is plentiful and healthy. Feeding the world’s population, which is expected to grow by 2.3 billion by 2050, will require raising food production by 70 percent. As a food scientist, you will contribute to feeding the world by designing new foods and exploring new ways to process, package and preserve food to ensure its safety and quality. 　　Integrate and apply knowledge of food sciences in and across core areas of food science such as food chemistry and analysis, food microbiology, food processing and food engineering.

　　Solve problems in food science using critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, skeptical inquiry, and the scientific method.

　　Communicate food science issues orally and through writing.

　　Analyze and resolve social, economic, and ethical issues in food sciences.

　　Work collaboratively and independently, learning from diverse perspectives to assimilate knowledge and synthesize new solutions and ways of thinking.
