About the course
The purpose of the Department of Chemistry is the advancement, interpretation, dissemination, and preservation of chemical concepts and knowledge. Chemistry itself is the science of the nature, composition, and property of material substances, as well as their transformations and interactions. It is thus basic to natural phenomena and modern technology alike. Chemistry is traditionally divided into five major parts: organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, and physical chemistry. The principal objectives of the Department of Chemistry are (l) to instruct students in the basic principles and techniques of the various branches of chemistry, (2) to educate students and the general public in the importance of chemistry to the quality of the environment and everyday living, and (3) to engage in research and publication of new scientific information.
