About the course
Our philosophy regarding percussion education is to be as all-inclusive as possible. As a Hartt student, you will typically study solo, chamber and orchestral repertoire, as well as improvisation, drum-set, and percussion instruments from other cultures (particularly from Africa, the Middle East, Cuba, Brazil, and Trinidad). We routinely hire guest teachers with focused areas of expertise in order to compliment our more traditional offerings. As a result, Hartt percussion alumni have been very successful in finding a variety of jobs throughout the country. The Bachelor of Music (BMus) degree in Instrumental Performance at The Hartt School is a comprehensive program designed for the student of superior talent and motivation whose goal is to be a professional performer. Through classes such as Communicating with an Audience, Building a Music Career, and Orchestral Repertoire Class, students learn career development techniques including contract negotiation, making a recording, stage presentation, preparation for orchestra auditions, and repertoire selection.
