About the course
Terrorism impacts the world in challenging and often unexpected ways. In this course, you’ll explore the complex causes of terrorism and political violence, how these issues are shaping the world – and what can be done about it. Terrorism, and efforts to counter it, has come to reshape national and global politics in the 21st Century. In this major, you’ll get to explore the meaning, evolution and complex causes of terrorism and political violence. You will gain specialised knowledge in various counter-terrorism strategies, policies and politics adopted by governments and security agencies in response to these threats. This major equips you with specialised analytical skills to analyse contexts in which terrorism occurs and evaluate counter terrorism policies and strategies. This course was the first of its kind in WA. Benefit from our long-standing industry connections with government and security agencies and learn from experts who have worked and consulted with organisations such as the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Australian Defence College, United Nations and a range of aid and development agencies. How to apply
Entry requirements for Murdoch University
For admission into Murdoch you must be able to provide evidence of competency in the English language. This is usually achieved through one of the following:
A scaled score of 50% or more in ATAR English, English Literature or English as a Second Language (or interstate equivalent).
An Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall score of 6.5 (with no band below 6.5) or equivalent scores for the Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic, TOEFL iBT or the Occupational English Test (OET).
6 months to 2 years of university-level study (taught in English), depending on grades and country of study.
Test of English as a Foreign Language - IBT (TOEFL IBT) -79 with no band less than 21
You are currently completing Year 12, or have completed it within the last two years, and are using the results you gained at school for entry. This includes ATAR (or equivalent from interstate or overseas) or vocational education and training qualifications completed during your studies at high school.
International Baccalaureate - 3 or better in Higher level (HL), 4 or better in Standard Level (SL)
