Students spend their first two years learning and honing foundational skills in technical production, stage management, design, graphic communication, play reading and analysis, and architectural and costume history. Their training includes both classroom work and hands-on experience on at least one show per semester. In their upperclassman years, students continue to develop skills in leadership, communication and problem solving. The coursework also introduces students to production management and other associated entertainment fields, such as opera, ballet, film and events management. Students act as a stage manager or assistant stage manager on one show per semester throughout their residency, and their training culminates in a professional internship with a local theatre.
