About the course
The Environmental Studies program critically analyzes key issues such as sustainability, pollution, poverty, biodiversity, and resource use, with the goal of equipping you with the knowledge and skills needed to help find solutions with a strong values orientation. Our interdisciplinary approach provides the educational vehicle to thoroughly examine issues from a variety of perspectives ? economic, ethical, political, historical, and scientific. The Environmental Studies and Science department serves as an environmental citizen in its communities of New York City and Westchester County. ?We envision Pace as an institution that provides a place for learning and discussing environmental issues affecting the region,? Department Chair, E. Melanie DuPuis, PhD.
Working with community partners, we create new projects and opportunities that provide both hands-on education for our students and a place for people to meet and discuss the environmental issues that are affecting our region and the world. We have partnered with local organizations such as Teatown Lake Reservation, Stone Barns Center for Agriculture, Rockefeller Preserve, the Pocantico River Watershed Alliance, American Museum of Natural History, and the Nature Conservancy to create workshops, events, courses, student projects and internships that teach students professional and scientific skills while helping to progress education and research in New York City and Westchester County.
