About the course

Biology, as the study of living systems, reveals the fundamental principles that govern the complexity within our cells, in the diverse organisms around us, and across vast landscapes. Thus, biology also provides the insights and tools necessary to address real-world problems, from conserving rare species to understanding the mechanisms of human disease. In the Division of Biological Sciences, we are committed to fundamental research excellence, to training the next generation of scientists and leaders through innovative graduate and undergraduate programs, and to fostering biological literacy in our communities.

　　The Natural History concentration within the Biology major is designed for students who seek an interdisciplinary science program. This option is not research-oriented, and is not considered a preparatory program for traditional research-based graduate programs. It is, however, designed for students seeking careers in environmental education, science writing or illustration, natural history or wildlife film-making, or natural history centers / museums. There is enough latitude in the requirements to allow for a minor or even a double major in a related field of interest (e.g. journalism, art, media arts, etc.).

How to apply

Entry requirements for University of Montana

Submit official transcripts, academic records, diplomas, national examination results, certificates or degrees received from all secondary, post-secondary, university and/or professional schools. All academic records must be in the original language accompanied by an English translation. The applicant may make the translation themselves. TOEFL iBT - 70 or higher, TOEFL PBT - 525 or higher, IELTS - 6.0 or higher. To be eligible for admission, freshman students must have the equivalent of a 2.5 GPA.
