About the course

Courses are designed to provide knowledge and techniques for understanding how criminal justice and social structures influence human behavior. With an Associate?s Degree in Criminal Justice, students will have 60 credit hours of college to either continue their education at a four-year university or to enter any public safety agency at the federal, state, and local levels. Criminal Justice careers can encompass a variety of jobs. Qualified graduates seek employment in law enforcement at the Federal, State, and local level, State and Federal Court Systems, Law Firms, Adult and Juvenile Correctional Facilities, Community Correctional Programs, Child Advocacy, Protective Services, Private Sector, and other service agencies.

  Anyone who has attended and completed a Texas Police Academy can be given up to 20 semester hours of credit, if pursuing this degree. Evidence [copy of Texas Commission On Law Enforcement (TCOLE) peace officer license if peace officer, or certificate for non-peace officers] of completion is required. Active, commissioned police officers (not detention officers) can have the tuition exempted/waived under Texas Senate Bill 1210. Active peace officers must provide a department letter (from a supervisor or Human Resources) disclosing that they are active police officers to take advantage of this.
